The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is an emergency response entity and this status can affect working hours, travel and change in duties as needed. The Senior IT Applications Developer, under general direction of the Chief of IT Web and Applications, provides senior development and technical support of TDEM web solutions and applications, and serves as TDEM’s technical leader when contractor developers are brought in to support various project initiatives. The position will also maintain TDEM’s Salesforce code base, and is responsible for the development and maintenance of related configurations and customizations, and the overall performance of the Salesforce environment.
The Senior IT Applications Developer needs to have strong creative and technical problem-solving, customer service, and team collaboration skills to ensure TDEM’s application objectives are achieved. This position reports to the Chief of IT Web and Applications.
Employees are subject to working extended hours during evenings and weekends.
Designs and implements application systems in to support automation of our administrative and operational processes.
Follows an iterative software development methodology and contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle and support processes.
Creates and manages custom objects, fields, and formulas, and participate in the integration process with other enterprise systems.
Manages Salesforce integrations and interfaces.
Approves coding designs. Coordinates the integration of multiple code designs to ensure compatibility.
Answers questions and coordinates the technical guidance and training provided to application users, oversees consistency with design documentation, and participates in the development of system and programming standards.
Supports analysis of application-level security and related audits.
Performs configuration and customization of salesforce.com platform.
Develops applications on the salesforce.com platform using apex and visual force.
Manages CMS and components for web designing in Salesforce.
Analyzes security updates and its application to suit best practices for TDEM organization.
Develops third party integrations and application management.
Maintains a regular work schedule and work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.
Ability to travel 5%.

Education – Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
Experience – Minimum five (5) years of modern applications development experience. Working knowledge of current software development lifecycle methodologies.
*Relevant work experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirements on a year-for-year basis, with one (1) year experience equivalent to thirty (30) semester hours. A completed advanced degree may also be substituted in lieu of work experience and the hiring supervisor retains this discretion.
Experience in Salesforce is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of web development technologies and programming.
Hands on with configuration and creating templates in communities.
Ability to develop solutions using configuration over customization.
Proficiency in lightning component framework.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and various Operating Systems, and network connectivity.
Excellent written and vocal communication skills.
Understands routine business conversations and can communicate with few errors.
Ability to work in a structured environment.
Ability to adhere to schedule, availability and hours of the department.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) maintains the all-hazards emergency management program for the State of Texas through specializing in Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation activities.
