This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, and interface with alliance partners, contract manufacturers and internal personnel to design, deploy and sustain custom solutions worldwide.

The Senior RF Engineer position is a high visibility role within NI requiring daily interaction with NI customers, NI Alliance Partners, NI Sales Teams, NI Engineering Teams, and Executive Management. This is a hand’s on multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering skills needed to support deployed custom solutions worldwide.


  • Interacting with a wide variety of cross functional teams including NI customers, NI Solutions and Development Teams, NI Services and Maintenance Teams, NI Quality and Continuous Improvement Teams, NI Alliance Partners and NI Suppliers in support of custom test and measurement solutions

  • Defining and implementing project plans, managing milestones, and holding reviews to assure systems meet requirements and readiness for deployment

  • Work as a technical expert in NI SW and HW to implement the NI solutions

  • Team oversight, project prioritization, and KPI tracking

  • Lifecycle management

  • Owning and implementing individual project deliverables, guiding technical decisions, and driving field found issues to resolution

  • Traveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives


  • Minimum Bachelor degree in an Engineering Discipline

  • Minimum 7 years relevant industry experience in an RF Systems Design Role or an RF Functional Test Engineering System Design Role.

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering, electronics, and RF principles

  • Sources of measurement error

  • Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment

  • Integration of hardware and software

  • Intimate knowledge of RF Test Instrumentation to include Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers, Power Meters, and Vector Signal Generators

  • Intimate knowledge of typical RF measurements such as EVM, 1dB Compression, IM3, Harmonics, CHP, ACP, PVT, etc.

  • RF System design and debug experience in a large-scale production or lab environment

  • Willing to travel up to 25% domestically and abroad in support of project objectives


  • Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms

  • Understanding of NI software tools (i.e. LabVIEW, TestStand, LabWindows CVI)

  • Understanding of Data Analysis and Presentation

  • Grounding and shielding principles

  • Familiar with schematic capture tools

  • Statistical analysis of data (Cp, Cpk, GR&R)

  • Effectively interact and communicate with customers

  • Work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural group development environment

  • Problem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutions

  • Take initiative, be a self-starter, and work independently

  • Persistently drive tasks and lead projects to successful completion

  • Quickly learn applicable technology, systems, and products

  • Strong problem-solving skills, work ethic, and drive to succeed
