Preparing our community for the tech jobs of today and tomorrow.

Technology is The Future of Work

Technology is one of the fastest growing industries across the United States. With over 12 million workers and a average salary above $125,000, technology is the third largest sector in the U.S. economy.* However, Black and Hispanic communities have not equitably benefited from the rapid growth of tech jobs due to lack of exposure, training, and experience.

To combat these disparity trends, Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTM) focuses on job placement, career development, and networking opportunities to increase diversity in tech and eliminate the skills gap across the industry.

Diversity in Tech and the Skills Gap Challenge

Today's tech industry is comprised predominately of white and Asian employees. With these groups making up 81% of the U.S. tech workforce, the overrepresentation of whites and Asians contributes to the lack of diversity in today's tech ecosystem.

While whites and Asians make up the majority of the technology workforce, Black and Hispanic communities account for only 15% of the tech workforce, despite being 31% of the U.S. population.
**

In order to prepare America's workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow, AUTM has built an awareness-to-employment pipeline to develop a workforce ecosystem and expose Black and Hispanic communities to the tech industry.
